Doctoral Research at Modern Sex Therapy Institute

A Brief Summary:

My doctoral research in Clinical Sexology at the Modern Sex Therapy Institute seeks to investigate the intersectional dynamics of neurodiversity, mental health, and human sexuality. Informed by lived experiences and a foundation of over 15 years of clinical practice across varied mental health settings, my inquiry adopts an interdisciplinary lens that integrates principles from psychology, sociology, anthropology, neuroscience, and genetics. The primary objective of this work is to contribute substantively to the literature and training curricula, thereby advancing our collective understanding of human behavior and connection, and ultimately promoting more inclusive, effective, and ethically responsive psychotherapy practices.

Thematic Areas of Research:

  • Depathologizing and strength-based identification of neurotype profiles
  • Diagnostic inequities and misrecognition of the Autistic neurotype across gender and culture
  • Clinical consequences of misdiagnosis of ADHD, AuDHD and Autism neurotypes in couples and sex therapy
  • Relational and sexual expression across neurotypes
  • Relationship dynamics across neurotype pairings of romantic partners
  • Integrating neurodiversity, trauma and cultural  contexts in psychotherapy practice
  • Understanding myths and facts of social, environmental and institutional influences on neurotype prevalence within a community
  • Re-imagining the therapeutic approach and treatment through a neurodiversity informed lens
